The UCI’s 12 October report from the 2026 UCI Gravel World Championships gives us a fresh women’s gravel story with both international sparkle and a South African thread worth tugging. Racing took place in Nannup, Western Australia, on 10 and 11 October 2026, with the UCI noting this as the first edition of Gravel Worlds hosted outside Europe. The women’s headline was emphatic: Marianne Vos won the Women Elite race, making her the first rider to claim multiple Elite titles at the UCI Gravel World Championships.

Vos, already the 2024 Gravel World Champion and second in 2025, took victory ahead of Germany’s Rosa Klöser and Dutch rider Larissa Hartog. According to the UCI, the Women Elite field started with 50 riders, covering 125.6km with 3,175m of elevation gain on a route made up of 84% gravel. In other words: not a decorative dirt-road detour, but a proper day out for people who enjoy their suffering scenic.

The racing context matters. The UCI’s pre-event preview, published on 6 October, had flagged the women’s course as the same distance used by women aged 19–49 and men aged 50–64, with Nannup’s Blackwood Valley serving up rolling forest roads, farmland, compacted clay, quartz, mica and fine gravel. That preview also named South Africa’s Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio among the Women Elite riders to watch, underlining that the South African interest was present before a wheel had turned.

But the most direct South African result came in the age-group races: Michelle George of South Africa won the Women 45–49 category. The UCI listed her among the women’s age-group world champions, alongside winners from the Netherlands, Canada, Belgium, Australia and the USA. For Dirty Heart, that is the nugget with heart: while Vos rightly takes the global headline, George’s result places a South African woman on the rainbow-jersey roll call at a Worlds that stretched well beyond the pro peloton.
